Question by Paul: why my aquarium filter not sucking up water? I have a caniter type aquarium filter. Everything seems to work fine, the motor is running, the impeller is spinning, but it does not suck in any water. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I filled it all the way up with water Best answer:

Your suppose to pour water in it to get it started.
