How to clean aquarium filters?

Question by Mustache Man: How to clean aquarium filters? Does anyone know a good way to clean the residue on a freshwater aquarium's filter? The filter hangs on the back of the aquarium, and it has salt-like residue on it. I have tried to scrub it with a brush, but haven't been able to get the filter clean on the outside. Well, you're supposed buy replacement cartridges for those filters...but in a quick fix (like, until you can get out to get a new one) you can just rinse it off. The resi
